A reason to come out on a Tuesday.

A singles night or a social night is a good reason to fill a slow evening, but most formats need a host, a clipboard and a lot of rearranged furniture. Flare runs from one iPhone. Put a code behind the bar, and the room does the rest.

A night of up to 50 costs $79.99, once, and up to 100 costs $149.99. Run it weekly with one tap.

Slow nights cost money anyway

The lights are on and the staff are in. An empty room is the most expensive kind of quiet.

Most event formats need a host

Speed dating takes a clipboard, a bell and someone who enjoys using both.

Trivia only works once a week

People want a reason to come that isn’t the same reason as last week.

A few people along the bar, not talking.

A code behind the bar, and everyone scans in.

Flare finds who’d like to meet.

Two glasses light up at opposite ends of the bar.

Questions you could use tonight.

Flare only knows what you ask. Here’s a starting template for this kind of event, and why each question is there. Copy it, then change whatever doesn’t sound like your crowd.

  1. What are you drinking tonight?

    Ask onlySingle choice

A fun warm-up. Ask only means it doesn’t affect who meets whom.

  2. Your ideal night: quiet (1) to lively (5)?

Similar answersNormal importanceScale of 1 to 5

Good at separating a quiet drink from a late one.

  3. Which first-date activities would you enjoy?

    Shared answersNormal importanceMultiple choice

Gives every pair a first thing to talk about.

Pick the broad context to suit the night. Dating always respects each guest’s mutual preferences; Friends has no romantic rules at all.

How to build this in the appHow to write good questions

How the night runs.

You start the event from your own iPhone and put the code where guests can see it. Everything after that happens on their phones.

  1. Before

Share the invitation on your socials a week ahead, so people arrive with the app ready.

  2. 7:00

The live code goes on the TV behind the bar. Staff need to know one sentence: “Scan the code, then light your flare.”

  3. 7:30

Introductions start. Phones can rest on the bar with a clear glass on top, if your guests like the idea.

  4. 8:15

Second introductions begin as rest timers run out.

  5. Close

End the event from your phone, and run it again next week in one tap.

Is it right for your event?

It tends to suit

  • Bars and restaurants with a regular slow night
  • Venues with a TV or screen guests can see from the door
  • Teams with no spare staff for hosting

It’s probably not for

  • Very loud rooms, unless you add a short welcome: guests still need to know what’s happening
  • Rooms where many guests are on Android
  • Any room admitting under-18s: Flare is for adults, and checking ID at your door stays with you

Pay once, for this event.

A night of up to 50 costs $79.99, once, and up to 100 costs $149.99. Run it weekly with one tap.

No subscription and no per-match fee. Guests never pay.

What organizers ask.

All questions

Do my staff need training?
Barely. One person needs to start the event on their phone and put the code on a screen. If a guest asks, the answer is “scan the code, then light your flare.”
What’s the bit about glasses?
The ring on the home screen is the size of a glass. A clear glass on a phone that’s lying flat on a dry, steady surface can catch the light, and it looks lovely in a dark room. It’s optional, and people should take care with their phones and drinks.
Will this bring in more customers?
We can’t promise that, and nobody selling you an event format can. Start free: run a 10-person rehearsal with regulars, then one $79.99 night, and check the register.
Who’s responsible for safety?
You run your venue as usual, including age checks. Flare keeps guests in the room with no location sharing, and gives them clear, block and report. Reports reach you on the event screen.

Try it with ten people, for free.

A rehearsal is a real event. Round up some friends, run it once, and see how it feels before you put it in front of a room.
