For guests
The code won’t scan
Ask for the screen’s brightness to be turned up, and get a little closer. If it still won’t work, type the six-digit code. It changes at the same moment as the QR.
“That isn’t a Flare event code.”
You’ve scanned something else, or a photo of an old code. Scan the live code in the room.
“Allow camera access to scan”
Go to iOS Settings, then Flare, and turn Camera on. Or just type the six-digit code.
“Not live yet” or “This event has ended”
Guests can only join between the moment the host goes live and the moment they end the event. If you’re there and it says it isn’t live, find the host.
“This event is full.”
The event has reached the number of phones the host paid for. Only the host can help, and they can’t add more places to a paid event once it’s bought.
My light hasn’t found anyone
Flare only introduces people who fit, in the same context, and it can take a while. In a smaller room, it may not happen. Keep your flare on and put your phone away with notifications on. Check you aren’t resting after an earlier introduction, and that you chose the right context for the event. If you chose Good or Strong beside Light up for, try Okay.
I can’t find my match
The light shows how close you are, not which way to go. Walk slowly and watch the pulse: if it quickens, keep going. Try Beacon mode in Settings. If it isn’t working out, tap Block or report, then Couldn’t find them, and you’ll both get your rest back.
“Their signal dropped. Hang on.”
The other person’s phone lost its connection for a moment. Give it a minute. If they don’t come back, the match ends and your rest is refunded.
“Resting until…”
Your flare is resting after an introduction, so you have time to talk. It’ll light again at the time shown. After you clear a match, the rest is about two minutes. If you and your match didn’t find each other, this shouldn’t apply.
I’m not getting notifications
In Flare’s Settings, check Notifications. If it says Off, you’ll need to turn it on in iOS Settings.
The flashing bothers me
Turn on Reduce flashing in Settings. If you have Reduce Motion on in iOS, Flare holds the light steady and uses words instead.
For hosts
Guests can’t join
Check that the event says it’s live, not paused, and that the code they have is the current one. Saved events don’t admit anyone until you tap Go live.
My purchase got stuck
In the host area, tap Recover pending purchases. You won’t be charged twice for the same transaction.
The price won’t load
Tap Reload Apple prices on the event screen, and check your connection.
My template won’t save
A template with questions needs at least one that’s used for matching, beyond short text. A needs and offerings question also needs its pair chosen, with identical answer choices. More on templates.
I got a new iPhone
Templates and events belong to the iPhone that made them, and can’t yet move to another phone. Keep a note of your questions, and write to us if you have an active event.
